The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo By Steig Larsson

Reaching onto your expectations and outliving the hype surrounding a work is a real tough job to perform ,that's exactly how I felt about this book .The girl with the dragon tattoo is popular name among bibliophiles and movieholics. The book was written by Steig Larsson and created for the screen by none other than David Fincher. Book begins with Mikhael Blomkovist(Journalist) losing a libel case against Hans-Erik-Wennerstrom (Swedish industrialist) for printing a baseless  article about him being involved in a financial fraud. Court orders Blomkovist to pay a hefty sum for defaming the industrialist and also grants three months of imprisonment ,to make sure he doesn't print any more scandalizing rumors for his own magazine which goes by the name , The Millenium. A disturbing past, is the greatest old school formula to create a protagonist works here also, Lisbeth Salander ,who works with Milton security on her own terms perfectly carries that element of trauma within her personality. Her appearance is tomboyish with a little glint of greaser in it . Her body which is filled with piercings and Tattoos also leaves a subtle hint that she is a geek of something and she turns out to be a hacker, an exceptionally good one with a gift of photographic memory. A memory so good can serve important people but physical and mental scarring can make it vindictive and Lisbeth knows how to deliver a payback.

When Mikhael finds himself running out of options , he is approached by a magnate of his time, Henrik Vanger who offers financial cover to his falling magazine and to take care of the fines imposed upon him, in exchange for a task to find Henrik's grand niece, Harriet Vanger who disappeared from their village(Hedeby Island) nearly 40 years ago. Mikhael who's not in a position to refuse accepts his offer and starts the investigation. He begins it with the members of Vanger family and their blotchy past which is filled with misogyny, incest and betrayal. Work is short of a word, when you are trying to untie a 40 year old case ,so when Mikhael feels the need of an assistant , Boom ! Lisbeth Salander enters the picture .As the double team tries to balance the mystery with new found clues ,they realize someone in the family wants the past to stay hidden.

Work provides a deep glance , into the situation of women in Sweden and every part states a fact  about how often a women has to face physical or mental assault in Sweden. Novel is filled with casual sex ,and when I say casual I really mean it ,people are having sex like they are having food . Mikhael maintains an extremely open relationship with Erika Berger ,co-owner of the magazine , and Lisbeth on the other hand acts bisexual but mostly inclined towards men, who talk less but do more on bed.

Solving a 40 year old mystery looks pretty challenging at the beginning but it is executed in a neat and believable way, which has the perfect potential to satisfy your sense of reason. Every character gets sufficient page time with engrossing backstories of their own. The plot of this book offers the most teasing mystery which makes the story so engaging that you will chase pages , jump over the twists and turns to uncover it.
